FOOTSTEPS Growing up in the Midwest and Florida, the terrain was extremely flat. So when I moved to San Francisco just after college I was understandably taken by the hills, incredible vistas and overall beauty of the place. Each day I would set out on foot to explore new areas and different neighborhoods – all the while searching for a surprising and unexpected way to document one of the most photographed cities in the world. I discovered the answer was literally right under my feet. There are some 350 staircases around San Francisco and the more of them I encountered in my exploration, the more I realized that these stairs were quite often just as interesting and beautiful as the vistas and winding streets they would take me to. This revelation led me to this series of photographs that I believe provide a unique perspective on one of the world’s most beautiful cities. To me these photos serve as a reminder that while we are busily trying to get to wherever it is we’re going, it’s important to stop and appreciate the beauty and value of the path we've chosen to get there. Prints are available in an 8.25" x 11.5" and 15” x 21” size as an archival inkjet on satin fiber paper. Series is in an edition of 15 and 10 respectively.
